Batumi Results

All we know for now, according to tumblr, is that Seda had a fall and Pseka did VT, UB. Everything else comes from Ksenia Semenova and educated speculation because you may have realized that some people did not compete the events they were supposed to (FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME I MUST STOP LISTENING TO VALENTINA RODIONENKO).

Hmm, these results are interesting to say the least. Shelgunova won AA with a massively improved AA score. Seeing as Valentina has been praying for the day her favorite scored these kinds of numbers, this is not good for Seda; she's kinda fighting for a World's spot with Kharenkova, both being good all arounders, with strong beam, and decent floor routines as well. But then Seda (with an-inflated?-15.6) beat Masha K (with 14.9) on beam, so...?

Most hilarious of all is that Paseka beat Dasha on bars with a 15.3 to the latter's 15.1,but hey, at least Komova got 15.4, which might be overscored- unless she upgraded. She really is never in a proper 90 degree handstand anymore, and its very obvious from both the side and front view of a camera. I remember in 2011 when Vika was scoring 8.9's and I know what that execution looked like; to score a 15.45 with a 6.6 d-score, she'd have to be as good as in her old days, and while she's still got the floaty swing and gorgeous lines, the technical things like her handstands, piked layout jaeger*, late pirouettes, not to mention her horrendous 'russian tap'...are all very deductible.  But friendly meets tend to have looser judging and even without seeing video evidence, i'm sure her e-score still deserved to be higher than most people's in the world- and there's time to fix her faults- so this was a bright spot in the WAG results.

We unfortunately don't know the breakdown of Anastasia Dmitrieva's 54.95 in AA yet, but its fair to say that she doesn't pose a threat to any of the top girls this year. If calamity strikes (injuries), she could be sent to World's and people shouldn't really panic at that. She's an excellent floor worker and is working on upgrading vault, which I don't know if she did here. Mama Afan SUPPOSEDLY did beam and the result was a 12.9. Damn. I want to be critical of her, but the lady did not want to be here from the beginning. She's been absent from Round Lake for several weeks and had a painful dental issue that was being remedied so training was not a priority, maybe for more reasons than were even publicly mentioned. I think we should've expected this result and, without being too hard on her, remember that when she is prepared she will get the job done for Russia. If this is her BB score, that means they took her off of vault, which was the actual event she was slated to compete*. She probably would've fallen and might've injured herself, so I'm happy about that. Not so happy about hearing Paseka might have crashed her amanar*, though :(

I suppose this was to be expected as well. I mentioned in this post that Bee Farm was having back issues at Universiade and then sprained her ankle a few weeks later. I notice the lopez is her default second vault when she's not at a big meet, and I hope that means she's properly learning the cheng.

To mention some of the MAG, David and Nikita tied for first in AA which is very good news for Nikita who typically only beats David at home meets. I think the Euro Games gave him the confidence he needed to realize his potential is not rooted to domestic scoring. Denis Ablyazin scored a 15.6 on floor, and while that's going to help the Russian boys qualify a team to Rio, it's not even close to what several of the Japanese men are putting up on floor (not to mention their number one fx specialist, Kenzo Shirai, is averaging almost a point higher). Here are the full MAG results.

There's more I want to say about the meet, but without knowing the breakdown of some of the scores, it'll have to wait. I will do a more in depth analysis of this meet if and when videos surface. Suffice to say, many gymfans predictions about the World's team have been shot. Who surprised you in the best and worst ways?

*Komova's UB d-score is supposed to be a 6.7 but it's been downgraded consistently because shes not being credited with an actual laid-out layout jaeger.

*Rewriting Russian Gymnastics said she did compete vault and I can't imagine what simple vault she did to give her a 12.9 :/ She shouldn't have come at all...

*It's believed Paseka scored a 14.85 for the amanar. It depends on how good you think Paseka's amanar is to determine whether you think this score is the result of a fall or just her typical execution, with a neutral .3 deduction perhaps?
