Afan Receiving Treatment in Munich
Recurring injuries have plagued Russia's best gymnasts all quad, stunting their development by forcing them to relearn everything. No matter the disbelievers, I will always say that
Viktoria Komova and Aliya Mustafina might have at one time launched a great
offensive against Simone Biles and been her equal...but now they are reduced to
playing catch up. Still, nothing productive ever comes from swimming in pity,
so to balance some bad news out we have Emin Garibov back to full training and
Aliya Mustafina who is steadily increasing her workload on the knee. Aliya
will return to apparatus training in February. Four of the members already
named to the Rio Olympic WAG team have been to the Olympics before, and between
them they hold every title at every level of the sport. Even so, they do not presume themselves to be the victors at a competition before it's even begun. They are humble athletes; each has had to overcome extreme adversity to get back to top form and that journey is not to be taken for granted. In many respects this was not the ideal way the quad was supposed
to go for them- it should never have been so difficult. Yet they challenged themselves to learn new & difficult skills, and restored Russia's credibility in the sport, exhibiting tremendous talent, courage, and heart. Onward and forward girls; there will always be obstacles but you have everything in your possession to conquer it!
