Rodionenko: The Results Were Disappointing
From papaliukin we have an accurate translation of Andrei Rodienenko's
thoughts on Russia's first two days of competition. I have to agree with him;
Russia won't be on the AA podium for the first time since 2009. No one has a
high enough level (not even Aliya, since she missed weeks of training, and not Vika, as ankle pain resulted in loss of AA training too).
The gymnasts simply are not at a high enough level to challenge the US, Iordache, and possibly even more gymnasts-such as Black or Steingruber- at World's. |
"Andrei Rodionenko says the women’s all-around results were mostly
disappointing. While some gymnasts did well, others didn’t do quite as well.
But overall, he’s concerned that scoring 57 points in the all-around isn’t
enough to fight for medals in Glasgow where gymnasts will need to score 59+.
He saw a number
of a problems from the competition for different reasons. Right now he believes
Aliya Mustafina and Viktoria Komova are Russia’s best, but they are currently
not in top form to give optimal performances. The younger gymnasts from
yesterday are below their level."
