Qualifications Results & Thoughts

After day 2, some things changed for Team Russia. Sadly, the competition proved too fierce on vault and Seda was knocked out in the last subdivision by Steingruber and Moreno. Russia will only have one gymnast (Seda) to depend upon in the AA final as well, as Daria's weak showing in quals pushed her out relatively early on in Day 2. I think this has been the worst AA showing for Russia since 2007. Otherwise, Russians held their place in EF's and even managed to stay atop the rankings on UB after China's meltdown. In finals, everything is reset and what you did before doesn't count, but bravo to the girls for steady qualifications routines that were high in execution marks. I'm most worried about FX finals; I just want Ksenia to be healthy and looking at those scores, she's gonna have to pull out all the stops and upgrade to her 6.4 if she can. Biles...well she can't be touched, so it's a competition for silver. VT is in Paseka's favor because she has the difficulty, but since Biles made a conscious decision not to do the cheng (she has one, just isn't competing it) then I don't think USA cares too much about losing to Russia or North Korea this year. Biles, unlike Paseka or Hong, is a world class AA gymnast- the best- and has multiple priorities and apparatus to deal with, so they have to pace her differently to avoid burn out. It's smart, and judging by how well she holds her own without the cheng, she might be unstoppable when she debuts it for the Olympics. In the meantime I think she's trying to hit 15+ on every apparatus which is obviously not what other vt specialists have to worry about when they're risking their necks throwing prudonova's and the like. On BB, it's a long shot but I hope NED wins two medals because I love them more than any other team in existence on this piece. They bring the CoP to life on beam, that is all. On UB, well our Russians are artists in their own right, and I'm beyond miffed to see Kocian's (USA) scrunchy toed, no-flow bar routine within a tenth or two from our girls. I want Vika to win gold now that Becky Downie has DESTROYED MY HEART COMPLETELY by falling in qualifications. I think Komova is what every bars specialists should strive to look like in the same way I wish every amanar looked like Biles' or Maroney's, ya know?

VT. I don't think the top 3 will change for the podium; only the order perhaps?
Paseka did stuck-ish vaults and still couldnt edge Biles (who didn't stick
but was still cleaner). If Biles sticks in EF's, she'll win I think.

Biles is the most incredible thing about these
Championships: she qualifies FIRST into every final
except bars (which she was 2PC'd out of). Like, who
does that? TF, AA, FX, BB, VT.
