The Saga Continues Part II
According to
Valentina Rodionenko, Zhenya (Shelgy) has replaced Dmitrieva as the official
alternate. I warned you that we could expect changes up until the very last day
before departure, and frankly, I'm certain more changes will come. The Russian
team is supposed to depart on the 17th so there's still time to decide who
looks the better of the two between Anastasia and Evgenia. While I'm sad that
Nastia was replaced- and her demotion
implies inconsistency in controlled trainings- I know that many Russian fans
on VK always thought Zhenya was the better option because she's placed pretty
much ahead of Dmitrieva on every apparatus and AA this year. That combined with
her high d-scores on beam and floor, not to mention her general stability, makes
her a tempting option to take to World's. If she gets to go, and then starts
outshining others there, they may even add her to the team. Unlikely... but I would not be
surprised. After all, she's just as likely as the next girl to make AA finals,
and she is usable in TF.
